Privacy Policy

In short: SmartRefresh works inside your browser. We have no servers that receive your browsing activity, we do not collect your history, and we do not sell data to anyone. Your configuration lives on your own device.

1. Who We Are

SmartRefresh (“the extension”, “we”) is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium-based browsers that automates page reloading and change detection. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.

2. Data the Extension Stores

To function, SmartRefresh saves in your browser’s local storage (chrome.storage.local) only the configuration you define:

  • Reload intervals, modes, and per-tab options you have enabled.
  • Keywords, CSS selectors, and monitoring rules you configure.
  • Interface preferences (last interval used, timer position, etc.).
  • Auto-start URLs and profiles, if you configure them.

This data remains on your device. It is not sent to our servers in the free version.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your browsing history.
  • We do not read or store the content of pages you visit, except the minimal excerpt needed on your own device to detect the change you configured.
  • We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics inside the extension.
  • We do not sell or share personal data with third parties.

4. Browser Permissions and Why We Request Them

  • storage — to save your configuration locally.
  • alarms — to schedule reloads in the background efficiently.
  • tabs — to know which tabs have an active reload and display their countdown.
  • scripting / active tab access — to inject the visual timer, detect changes, and run the element picker only on pages where you activate it.
  • notifications — to alert you when a change is detected, if you enable alerts.
  • userScripts — only for the Pro feature “Scripts by URL”: running JavaScript that you write on the pages you specify. Scripts are stored only in your browser, run in an isolated world (no access to the page’s JavaScript), and are never sent to our servers. Requires enabling “Allow user scripts” in chrome://extensions.

We only use each permission for the described function. We do not access pages where you have not activated the extension. SmartRefresh does not inject or download third-party code: “Scripts by URL” are exclusively ones you create.

5. Paid Features (Pro and Team)

If you subscribe to a Pro or Team plan, we create an account to validate your license. In that case we process your email address and subscription data strictly necessary for billing and access to premium features. Payment is processed through a secure external provider; we do not store your full card details.

Optional features you configure, such as webhooks or email alerts, send data only to the destination you specify (your own webhook URL or email).

6. Retention and Deletion

You can delete all local configuration by uninstalling the extension or using the reset option in Settings. For paid accounts, you can request deletion of your data by writing to our contact address.

7. Minors

SmartRefresh is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect extension improvements or legal requirements. We will publish the current version on this page with its update date.
